Day 19 – December 27th

Rain rain, go away, come again another day! (Another day at least two months from now please! 😊)

Lots of little critters were in the space between our tent and rain fly 🐌

What a COZY morning in our tent listening to a light pitter patter in 65 degree weather. Ahhhh. We made lots of little spider and snail friends as our tent provided a refuge for more than just two humans!

The drizzle let up around 9am and we were on the road an hour an a half or so later full of hearty oatmeal. It felt great to bike for several hours again today and be back on the road making good progress.

Lots of cool above ground cemeteries in Louisiana due to flooding.

We enjoyed a lunch at McDonalds (with canned spinach and peas on the side) and rode until rain struck around 4pm in a town called Thibodaux. We are taking shelter and planning to camp in a nearby lot when the rain lets up.

Raaaaainy rainy mood. Ahhh.

Fun fact, we just road through a town called Raceland which is β€œThe Sauce Piquante Capitol of the World!” Louisiana food is awesome.

37 + 8 miles for our McDonalds run = 45 miles

Route info for interested readers:

From the Mississippi River bike path, we hopped onto county road 631 just south of Luling. That turned into highway 90 which was the worst part of the trip (the roads sucked, but there was at least ample shoulder). We then got onto county road 1 headed west.
