Day 35 – March 28th

Technical difficulties!

The mechanic at work!

Our VERY windy 30 mile ride into Del Rio took over four hours to complete and left us with a serious mechanic issue to sort out on Ryan’s bike. What an interesting history for the road we were traveling on though!

Chihuahua Road

Unfortunately the only bike shop in town, or for miles and miles for that matter, was closed and with no employee in sight. Ryan is one of the most resilient people I know though, and after lots of searching he managed to find a suitable part to replace his damaged rear wheel in a pawn shop!

We met a very friendly local, Bob, who helped us try and open up Ryan’s new wheel hub to no avail, but we left with good feelings and gratitude for kind strangers. Tomorrow will be spent figuring out a way to get into his new wheel and gathering supplies for our upcoming 90 mile dry stretch with no water.

Our day ended with some DELICIOUS enchiladas (to-go of course with the restaurant ban).

What a day. I was out as soon as we had the tent set up in a wide open grassy field near the outskirts of town.

Short ride today but it took oh so long with the wind. I’m adding another 5 miles for the biking around town for a total of 37 today.

We left Bracketville on highway 55 towards Del Rio and it was a straight shot all the way into town!
